>> INSIDER WIRE —Is Gareth Pugh going wearable fashion on us? Recently, the New York Times Magazine hinted he might be up for it, quoting his friend Nicola Formichetti in support: "There are people all over the world who are dying to be able to wear Gareth's pieces, and I'm sure in time, he will adapt to that and start making more wearable looks." Pugh himself told V he's "bored of inaccessible" and talks of "making [his ideas] into something tangible that people can actually understand." But he's never going to lose his showpieces entirely: "I don’t ever want to show just a dress." [NYT Magazine, V Magazine]

Gareth Pugh is smarter than he gives himself credit for. Season after season, he showcases cutting edge design through his dark, gothic, underground rebel aesthetic. Most, if not all, of the pieces aren't very wearable but I feel like audiences are drawn into masterpieces. Now that he's got worldwide attention, it's the absolute perfect time for him to produce wearable clothing so people can own a piece of Gareth. Also, it's about time he really started making some money; he's too talented to be broke. Who ever thought that the words "wearable" and "Gareth Pugh" would ever be in the same sentence? His S/S2009 collection in Paris was brilliant.
